Topaz is widely recognized as the most common gemstone around the world. mohs scale rates it at 8 in terms of its hardness making it decently hard. Topaz is available in a rainbow of hues, the most precious of which are the red, pink and orange stones which are mined in Brazil, Pakistan and Russia. Topaz that is colorless is mined in Sri Lanka, Nigeria and China. In its rough form blue topaz is colorless, and only after exposure to irradiation enhancement it takes up its blue color. It is very heat and sunlight sensitive, and may lose its color if exposed to ultra violet beams quite frequently. Numerous societies have guaranteed that topaz has legendary and supernatural strengthening powers. In the United States it is the customary November birthstone and while alternatively it is also the December birth stone.
